Vogue's September Issue Through the Decades

It's no secret that the September issue is regarded as the most important issue of the year for fashion magazines. Every fashion magazine puts their best perfectly manicured foot forward for the release of this issue. Vogue has set itself to a whole different level thanks to Queen Bee herself, Anna Wintour (don't worry, Beyonce, you're still Queen Bee in my book!) The high level of notoriety with Vogue's September issue resulted in the 2009 documentary, The September Issue, that showed the ellaborate process of creating Vogue's famous publication for Fall.

But why so much emphasis on September issue? What about May? Or showing February some love? This particular issue is coveted because it is filled to the brim with the latest Fall trends in terms of colors, silhouettes, fresh-faced models, and design. It is the ultimate back-to-school guide in the world of stilettos and sequins. With September being on our coattails, it means that the much anticipated issue reveal is a mere few weeks away. Who will be Vogue's covergirl this year? Lupita? Beyonce? Mrs. Piggy? Here is a look at the covergirls over the past two decades. Which one is your favorite icon?

Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway breakdance in Jenny Lewis' New Video

Jenny Lewis is at it again. She just released her new video for her single "One of the Guys" and it is everything. It features Anne Hathaway, Kristen Stewart and Brie Larson demolishing gender norms in true fashion, tracksuits and all. Did I mention Anne Hathaway is breakdancing and Kristen Stewart can totally rock a mustache like no other?

Watch it here:

McQueen's Killer Ad Campaign for Fall

McQueen's Fall 2014 ad campaign is up and it is everything. It features British model Edie Campbell who returns after appearing in the brand's Fall campaign last year as well.  The vibe of the campaign captures an alluringly dark mood as Edie poses on the back of a horse in fairy tale-inspired designs by the one and only Sarah Burton. The images were photographed by Steven Klein. Which shot is your favorite?

10 Must-Have Items for Your Beach Bag

One of my favorite things about summertime is being able to lounge out at the beach on a hot July day. There is truly nothing better than kicking it beachside with your girlfriends like you're in some 90's TV show. I have trekked to the beach (translation: driven in my car) and set up camp just to realize that I totally forgot one of my favorite things at home far too many times. Learn from my mistakes and check out the latest must-have items for your beach bag  to make the most of your beach bum days.

1. A statement pendant necklace. As a San Franciscan, I am used to layering 23,587 different pieces of clothing on at the same time (the amount of scarves and cardigans I can fit in my bag is a talent, really.) At the beach, I feel so naked not being able to add cool, interesting layers to my outfit. Pendant necklaces are a great way to add a touch of bohemian glamour at the beach without having to add unnecessary layers. Plus, wearing a necklace that flaunts your astrology sign is a total way to personalize your outfit! Any fellow tauruses any in the house? Bueller?

2. Waterproof mascara. Everyone knows that wearing most makeup at the beach is useless. One time I tried to wear mascara and lipstick and ended up looking like the joker from all of the crashing waves and sweat. But what if you want to add a bit of makeup for your instagram selfie? This is why I love Urban Decay's waterproof mascara. It takes your lashes the extra mile without making you look like you're in a Marilyn Manson music video when you go dive in the ocean. Sidenote: this product is also fantastic to use while watching the Notebook, The Fault in Our Stars, or Titanic.

3. Sunless Tanner. As an extremely fair-skinned individual, I have never known the glory of what it feels like to have a tan. Pretty sure Casper and I were separated at birth Parent Trap stye, but that's a whole different story. I'm totally okay with my pale skin, but sometimes I just would like the appearance of having sun-kissed legs while I'm laying out at the beach. As a result, I love using self tanners like the bareMinerals one because it makes you look bronzed goddess AND does not harm your skin. Talk about a double whammy, people.

4. Chic Beach Towel. We can all agree here that there is nothing worse than getting sand all up in your groove at the beach. Thank goodness for beach towels and all of their glory. This statement towel is perfect to sprawl out on at the beach for a cat nap.

4. Polarized sunnies. These Ray-Bans are my absolute favorite. I seriously adore my polarized sunglasses for the beach because they reduce the glare of the water. The mirrored aviators style is so in right now and is the perfect accessory to any sporty swimsuit or edgy patterned bikini. Plus, the mirrored lenses let you check out the hotties on the beach incognito.

5. Headphones. There is nothing better than falling asleep while listening to your favorite band with your toes in the sand. Ever. These Frends headphones are the perfect statement accessory to add to any outfit. They're great for droning out the kids squabbling at each other at the umbrella next to yours. p.s. They're perfect to wear on your morning commute or at your desk to add a bit of flair to your look.

6. Sunscreen. Your skin is precious, people! Whenever I was younger I  remember scowling at my Mother when she made me lather up with SPF 50 sunscreen everyday before the beach. Now I could not be more grateful and have one-upped her to now use SPF 70 on my own. The spray-on sunscreen is a personal favorite because it doesn't  make me  look like I dressed up as a tacky tourist with white sunscreen on my nose.

7. Floppy hat. A floppy hat is such an iconic staple for beachwear. It adds instant glamour to any outfit. It goes great with maxi dress and sandals for a lunch break at a local beach cafe. Did I mention how big hats are a great wingman for whenever you are having a bad hair day at the beach? Bonus points: it protects your skin from the harmful rays!

8. Tinted Lip Balm. Tinted lip balm is the best because it kills two birds with one stone. It gives you a touch of color while hydrating your lips at the same time. Benefit has great colors that leave you with an effortless glamour. Plus, it doesn't smudge in the heat like normal lipstick does. Let's just say I learned the hard way to not wear deep red lipstick on a 101 degree day at the beach..

9. A Chic Water Bottle. It is super important to be drinking water constantly when you are out in the sweltering heat to stay hydrated. To be honest, I do not always enjoy the taste of water by itself. I love this water bottle because you can add any refreshing fruit you like without getting any of the seeds or pulp in your actual water. Life hack!

10. Beach Bag. This list could not be complete without a perfect tote to carry all of your must-have accessories in. The Wildfox bag is perfect beach totes thanks to it's durability, size, and adorable design. Seriously, who can resist themed apparel!? Not me.

How to Dress like Cher Horowitz

One of my favorite things about 90's fashion being in style again, besides having a reason to wearing oversized plaid shirts 24/7, is to have a reason to channel my inner 90's girl. Like most girls, I grew up watching Clueless more times than I can count.  I'm pretty sure I learned all of Cher's memorable one liners before I even learned my home address.  These ladies are killing the style game with their staple knee high socks, matching plaid outfits, and side of sass.  Here is a guide to dressing from head to toe in the best Cher looks, even if it isn't all designer like Alaia.

First, we have Cher's outfit while she is volunteering for the Relief Fund is one of my favorites.  Maybe this is because she was turning over a new leaf, or maybe it's just because that slip dress is so killer.

Clueless

Clueless

The infamous P.E. outfits, need I say more. As a person whose daily workout is my walk to the fridge, I totally relate to their pain while dodging the tennis balls. Cher confirms that you can look good while working out at the same time. I would totally go to the gym if I could wear what these ladies are rocking. Someone please create a line of active gear inspired after this scene. I'm looking at you, Nike.

One of my favorite looks of all time. It's okay, girl, I failed my driving test the first time, too. (Thank goodness I don't have to drive where I live now.)

THE red dress. Every woman should be have a red dress like this in her closet and a bff like Christian on speed dial.  Burning the cookies on the first date is optional.

Last but not least, Cher and Dionne's iconic plaid outfits. Need I say more?

Why Everyone Should Try an Ombre At Least Once

Ombres are making a comeback and I could not be more excited. (Okay, I might be biased because yours truly is rocking one, but whatever.) It's edgy yet glamourous and is appropriate at any age. I’m still convinced they are the best thing since spanx and here’s a few reasons why: 1) You don’t have to choose between being a brunette or blonde, you get to be both! Goodbye to the eternal inner struggle at the hair salon.  2) It's super low maintenance. Uhm, hello, you never have to get your roots done people. What else do you want? I'm still amazed that they made a trend where having your roots show on purpose so chic.  3) Because it's easy to transition from. Tired of your ombre do? All you do is cut the ends off or dye it back to your natural color. I compiled a collection of my favorite ombres that inspired me to get mine.

Of course not.

Kim Kardashian's Chic Neutral Style

Love her or hate her, Kim Kardashian has been killing the style game lately. It's no secret that her wardrobe went through a style evolution when she got with Kanye. Her new look has been oozing with a new level of sophistication with clean lines, tailored pieces, and a neutral palette. Being a recovering chronic pattern mixer myself, I used to think that outfits could only look cool 'n edgy with bright colors, embellishments galore, and enough pattern mixing to mistake me for a gypsy clan. Kim's 2.0 style has inspired me trade in some  (keyword: some) of my outlandish pieces fit for a Burning Man party for a more elevated and tailored wardrobe. Adding different textures in your outfit i.e. suede and cotton together, playing with proportions, or carrying a serious statement bag is just some of the fun ways to create interest in a monochromatic outfit.

Can we just take a second to look at how fierce she looks nowadays?

Lottie Moss, Sister of Kate Moss, Is the New Face of Calvin Klein

Lottie Moss, follows in her big half-sister's, Kate Moss, footsteps as she is the new face of Calvin Klein for a special capsule collection. Lottie Moss, 16, is the younger sister of Kate Moss, 40, whose career skyrocketed after her Calvin Klein debut with Marky Mark in 1993. The Calvin Klein Jean x mytheresa.com The Re-Issue Project will include 9 special edition updated versions of their classic pieces like the infamous boyfriend jeans, high-waisted skinny jeans and 'CK" sweater. The campaign is reminiscent of Kate's campaign 21 years ago, but is updated with a modernized edge with a touch of innocence.

Here are some photos of Lottie's new campaign alongside some throwbacks of Kate throughout the years for Calvin.

p.s. this sweatshirt is definitely on my wish list  after seeing Lottie rock this.
